Christina Aguilera and Cher brave cold at Burlesque premiere

Christina Aguilera and Cher braved the cold to meet fans on the red carpet at the premiere Burlesque, their new film, in London's Leicester Square.

Pop star Aguilera, who made the shift from pop star to actress in the musical extravaganza, wore a figure-hugging black Stella McCartney dress with a fur wrap for the occasion.

Cher, sporting a shock of bright red hair, wore a leather jacket over her Julien Macdonald gown as she made her comeback following a seven-year break from films.

Director Steven Antin said he begged the 64-year-old star to take the part of Burlesque nightclub owner Tess, and claimed he tap danced to persuade her.

Cher admitted: "Yes, he did beg me. They all begged me and I kept saying no, and suddenly I found myself on the stage."

The singer added that she enjoyed bonding with the female cast on the film.

She said: "It was really fun. The girls mostly were together and it was fun being about that many women, sitting around talking during the breaks. We got friendly."

Aguilera, 29, who plays aspiring singer Ali, said she was honoured to work with Cher and learn from her.

She said: "She's absolutely amazing. She's a beautiful person inside and out and I learned a great deal from working with her."

The Grammy-award winning singer added that making the movie was very different to performing on tour.

She said: "It's a completely different animal. When I'm on tour it all comes from a personal, heartfelt place of self expression, creating my own world and my own fantasy.

"When you're in a movie it has to come from the character's point of view, so we feel a little bit neglected."

Burlesque dancers lined the pink carpet along with screaming fans at the Empire Cinema as the cast of the film including Twilight star Cam Gigandet and Heroes actress Kristin Bell signed autographs for the screaming fans.
