Commonwealth Games day three

  • Twenty-eight gold medals are on offer on day three with nine swimming finals taking place and the richly-anticipated athletics getting under way in Delhi.
  • Rebecca Adlington is on course to add to her Commonwealth Games medal collection after seamlessly cruising into the 800m freestyle final in Delhi.
  • The athletics is set to start but there have been problems at the stadium. Officials say repairs have ensured the Commonwealth Games stadium in Delhi will be ready for the start of the athletics events on Wednesday.
  • Terence Bosson springs a surprise Greco-Roman wrestling silver medal

  • Liverpool have agreed the sale of the club to New England Sports Ventures, the owners of Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox.
  • Newcastle United have called for Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong to be punished for the tackle that broke Hatem Ben Arfa's leg and led to the Dutchman being dropped by his national team.

  • NBA star Kobe Bryant went scoreless on Monday night, playing only six minutes as his 2010 champion Los Angeles Lakers were defeated 111-92 by a younger, hungrier Minnesota Timberwolves in a pre-season match in London.
