Tajan announces the sale of three major 20th century works at their important Summer auction of Modern & Contemporary Art, to be held on 29 May 2011 at the Hôtel Marcel Dassault under the gavel of Francis Briest. Highlights include a very rare 1915 painting by Lyonel Feininger, Hafen von Swinemünde (estimate €1.5-2m); Nicolas de Staël's 1952 Méditerranée – La Ciotat (est. €700,000-1,000,000); and Jean Dubuffet's 1964 Le Lit I in vinyl on canvas (est. €600,000-800,000). LYONEL FEININGER, HAFEN VON SWINEMÜNDE, 1915 Lyonel Feininger's Hafen von Swinemünde (1915) will be sold in aid of the Institut Curie, Secours Populaire Français and UNESCO World Foundation for AIDS Research & Prevention. The painting, to be auctioned in conjunction with Millon & Associés, has an estimate of €1.5-2m. Hafen von Swinemünde (Swinemünde Harbour) is a spectacular and unusual work from a key, and particularly productive period, in the career of Lyonel Feininger (1871-1956), and counts as one of the most original works of the German avant-garde from the 1914-18 period.

NEW YORK, NY.- Francis Alÿs: A Story of Deception, on view at The Museum of Modern Art and MoMA PS1, draws upon MoMA's unique and important collection of work by artist Francis Alÿs (Belgian, b. 1959), who uses poetic and allegorical methods to explore the social realities of political concepts, including the cyclical nature of change in modernizing societies, the urban landscape, and patterns of economic progress. Alÿs's personal, ambulatory explorations of cities form the basis for his practice, through which he compiles extensive documentation reflecting his process, producing complex and diverse bodies of work that include video, painting, performance, drawing, and photography.

DENMARK.- My Home My House My Stilthouse can be seen in a multifunctional manner as the viewer can discover many different settings in the subject and its surroundings. It consists out of clear lines but at the same time these lines are an abstract entity. In leaving a certain roughness and openness in the work Arne Quinze gives the viewer the opportunity to discover how people conduct their lives, live around each other and order society. The exhibition is on view June 1 through October 2, 2011 at the Louisiana Museum. My Home My House My Stilthouse is based on the idea everyone is setting their borders to protect themselves and look for shelter. The big question is: What is my house, what is my home? In every new phase in life the search for protection and shelter is certainly a continuum. From the very start, when you're just a small young human being you start building a simple booth camp under the table with white cloth where you can retreat yourself and stay in your small cocoon, a first house.
