Siauliai announced arrival of David Weaver (211-C-87, college: Wake Forest) for a try-out. The 23-year-old American center was released by Ilysiakos Athens recently, but he will have another chance to stay in Europe. David Weaver graduated at the Wake Forest University few months ago. He averaged 2.6 points and 2.1 rebounds for 31 games as a senior. 




 
Less than one month after being rescued, one of the now-famous Chilean miners will compete in the New York City Marathon Sunday, according to Mary Wittenberg, president of the New York City Road Runners Club.




Top seed Roger Federer began his bid to regain the ATP Basel title with a victory after opponent Alexandr Dolgopolov was forced to retire. With the score at 6-4 5-2, world number two Federer was serving for the match when 21-year-old Ukrainian Dolgopolov turned his right ankle as he stretched to reach a drop shot at the net.
 
European women's marathon champion Zivile Balciunaite denied taking banned drugs following a provisional suspension by the Lithuanian athletics federation. The federation has suspended Balciunaite after a urine test at the European championships in Barcelona this year found a deviation from the allowed ratio between the male sex hormone testosterone and epitestosterone.

For the first time in more than five years, Tiger Woods is becoming reacquainted with life away from the number one spot in the official world rankings. Woods, a winner of 14 Majors, was deposed by Britain's Lee Westwood when the world rankings were released on Monday, but he could make an immediate return to the top should he win this week's WGC-HSBC Champions event in Shanghai.
