Scanorama film festival lights up the silver screen again

Film lovers swoon again in 2010 as the Scanorama film festival entertains Lithuanian audiences with the best that the Nordic region can offer in cinema.

The "European Film Forum "Scanorama” is the festival of discoveries. [There are] not only popular and famous films but also new names, new creations, new ideas, new styles, the opportunity to discover something that will never be shown elsewhere," the festival said in press release.

The Scanorama festival shows off the best of Scandinavian films in a three week extravaganza. The line up of the films can been seen here.

The selection of films in the festival is based on professional criteria and not only the personal preferences of the organizers.

"It is performed in a way that allows to envision, foresee, and reveal the tendencies that are most significant in the process of contemporary European cinema and the general context of film history," the festival organizers said.

The festival has been a film lover's delight for many years already in Lithuania.

"Each year Scanorama opens a new layer of classics searching for meaningful links to what is happening here and now. By means of conceptual programmes European Film Forum Scanorama provokes the dialogue between tradition and innovation. While culturally crossing the whole Europe this Film Forum helps to discover, explore and understand the diversity of Europe and perceive oneself as the part of it," the fesival's press release said. "Scanorama is a clear concept of film display, professional film selection, elaborate and original retrospectives, new special programmes each year, interesting guests, and thoughtful discussions."

The festival runs from Nov. 11-21 in Vilnius, Nov. 18-28 in Kaunas and Nov. 23-38 in Klaipeda.
