Former Olympic hurdler Colin Jackson has visited the Caribbean island of Trinidad to see how Olympic charity International Inspirations is helping children use sport to improve their prospects.
When London won the race to host the 2012 Olympics, Lord Coe, made a promise to inspire young people around the world to choose sport.
As a result, the games' organising committee, LOCOG, came up with the idea of International Inspiration, a collaboration with UNICEF, UK Sport and The British Council "to enrich the lives of 12 million children in 20 countries through the power of sport and play."
In Trinidad and Tobago, International Inspiration says it is working to steer people away from a life of drink and drug abuse, as well as crime, by increasing the number of safe places for them to play sports.
The Telegraph joined Olympic silver medallist Colin Jackson on his trip to look at the impact of its work on the twin islands.
In this first video Colin sees how one set of International Inspiration volunteers organises a long distance relay race involving 26 schools.
