Facebook event on Monday may bring e-mail

Facebook's planned special event for November 15 may add e-mail if a leak proves accurate. The gathering at the St. Regis Yerba Buena Terrace in downtown San Francisco is expected to bring Project Titan, a full web-based e-mail client that would give users their own @facebook.com addresses. The initial form may be rough, TechCrunch claimed, but it may also explain a fight between Google and Facebook that has since seen Facebook implement a 'hack' to get Google contacts even after a ban; a new mail client could undermine Gmail.

The e-mail service could potentially integrate deeply with the social network. By knowing friends and their details, it could sort in order of a person's importance or provide notifications of less common Facebook updates through e-mail. Among the additions could be updates for Deals nearby as well as Groups. Mobile would be inherently covered by the nature of e-mail, although the move would let Facebook put e-mail in its own mobile apps or integrate it directly into mobile operating systems that allow it.

Facebook isn't expected to confirm details ahead of time, but its teaser for the event has made clear that it would relate to at least the Facebook inbox.
