The Paris Opera has opened its season with a homage to French
choreographer Roland Petit, featuring three ballets including “The young
man and death”.
The principal oboist with the Welsh National Opera was “victimised, bullied
and harassed” by its Italian conductor during a 14-year feud which split the
world-renowned organisation, a tribunal has heard. Murray Johnston, 61, was sacked after falling out with his conductor Carlo
Rizzi despite playing with the Opera for 34 years and making over 50
recordings.
Yesterday Mr Johnston claimed he was the victim of a sustained attempt by Mr
Rizzi to undermine and humiliate him after the pair fell out during a
rehearsal in 1994.
